Make your new puppy feel at home

Puppies can feel stressed or overwhelmed while adjusting to a new home. You can help them acclimate by showing them where they can eat and sleep, and giving them some quiet alone-time to relax.

Children often don’t know how to interact safely with puppies. If you have young children, make sure they know that a puppy isn’t a toy – they must be cared for.

Puppies are able to learn simple obedience and commands as early as eight weeks old. You can begin teaching boundaries to keep them safe as soon as you bring them home. We offer helpful advice on the best training methods for their age and breed, or can recommend a good obedience school.

Your kitten’s basic health check

Every kitten should see a vet as soon as possible. Here’s what you can expect from the first visit:

• Thorough physical examination to determine your        kitten’s state of health.
• Check for external parasites such as fleas and ticks.
• Check for internal parasites like tapeworm and              roundworm. Bring a stool sample if possible.
• Initial discussion and scheduling for your kitten’s          vaccinations.
• Discussion about whether your kitten should be de-    sexed and when.

Caring for your geriatric dog or cat

Providing good care throughout an animal’s life means they’re more likely to stay healthy as they get older. Follow these tips to ensure your pet’s long-term health:
• Check your dog’s mouth, eyes and ears regularly. Watch for loose teeth, redness, swelling or discharge.
• Keep your pet’s sleeping area clean and warm.
• Groom your pet often, and check for any unusual sores or lumps.
• Make fresh water available at all times.
• Maintain a regime of proper nutrition, exercise and loving attention.

Whether your pets are young or old, we’d love to have them visit. Call us at 08 9593 1797 to book an appointment to ensure your pet’s healthy development and later adulthood.
